This 21 meter long mural is a tribute to Joséphine Baker, a world-renowned performer in the arts of dance and theater. A French Resistance fighter and activist of African-American origin.
During the Second World War, she was awarded the Resistance Medal, the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre. Half woman, half bird, she symbolizes liberation from the shackles of racial segregation and violence.
Her story illustrates how artists can use their talent and fame to change the world.
